More HUWY UK results
Young Scot hosted a series of consultations and surveys about HUWY topics on www.youngscotsayswho.org .These ran from 31st August to 31st December 2010. The results of the cyberbullying survey are now on the HUWY UK hub. Most of the young people responding felt that cyberbullying was a sizeable problem, though a couple thought it was hyped by the media. Some described their own experiences. They had a range of suggestions for dealing with it on an individual basis –telling a parent, teacher or the police, blocking the bully, deleting messages, even deleting their own profile...They felt that teachers and schools could do more to help to discourage cyberbullying and protect against it. A clear procedure for reporting it would also help. Parents should also talk to their children, from a young age, about cyberbullying and Internet safety.
One of the Queens University Belfast groups, e-business group 8, looked at the privacy balance between employers and employees, noting that mobile working methods blurred the line between work and private life and brought more privacy challenges.
E-business group 7 were concerned about how people’s dependence on technology seems to be increasing, while their control over it decreases. When it came to social networking sites, they were wary about the site owners’ ability to change rules regarding users’ content. They thought governments might be able to influence this, but couldn’t see an easy solution.
