HUWY is committed to ensuring that your privacy is respected and that information will not be misused. In order to allow you to post to the site, we do need to collect some information. We will keep the information you need to provide to the minimum, however HUWY is a research project and any optional information you provide, may help us with the project.

As HUWY is an EU-funded project, we adhere to the guidelines issued by the European Data Protection Supervisor.

HUWY websites contain hyperlinks to other websites. These websites have their own privacy policies. You should take care when visiting those sites since the privacy practices of other web sites and your use of such web-sites is at your own risk.  However, we will try to ensure that only reputable sites are linked to.

What do we use personal information for?

When you register as a user, we will collect the information necessary to provide the service which includes, as a minimum, your name and an email address. Once you are registered, you can revisit your profile at any time to amend these details or to provide additional details. We also ask for optional information, such as your area or postcode. We will also collect information from you if you complete any other forms on our site or if you contact us with comments or specific requests.

HUWY may use the information you provide:

  • To contact you for reasons related to HUWY administration (e.g. to provide you with password reminders or to notify you that a particular service has been suspended for maintenance, etc.)
  • To contact you about a submission you have made to the site, including any content you have provided.
  • To further research into using the Internet to get people involved in democracy.

Your details and personal information will only be made available to people within the HUWY research teams who need to have access to that
information in order to operate, develop or improve the project. These teams are within the following HUWY partner organisations :

  • Edinburgh Napier University, Queens University Belfast and Dog Digital, UK
  • Tartu University, Estonia
  • Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research, Germany
  • Letterkenny Institute of Technology and Youth Work Ireland, Republic of Ireland

Information collected automatically

We automatically collect some information about your visit to our site – this is your IP address. This information is used to make your visit to our site more efficient. It may be used to ascertain the source of objectionable postings.
